Many people who experience shoulder pain immediately head to the local pharmacy and purchase some over-the-counter painkillers, seeking relief from their discomfort. However, this will only mask those symptoms for a short time, and will not really address the underlying cause of your shoulder pain. In order to truly address whatever issue might exist, it will be necessary to visit a chiropractor who will thoroughly examine you and diagnose the problem. Then a program of corrective treatment can be planned out and executed, and this will result in at least a significant reduction of the pain, if not a complete elimination of it.

    How chiropractic care works

The fundamental operation in chiropractic care is gently manipulating the musculoskeletal system, meaning that your joints, bones, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage will all be addressed. If you were to simply take medications to relieve pain, that would do nothing to alleviate the problem in these body parts, and any pain you have will return when the medication wears off. Chiropractic care works by first identifying the underlying cause of your discomfort, and then treating it effectively.

The shoulders, like all other joints of the body, are connected to an entire network of nerves throughout the neck, spine, and other areas of your body. It’s entirely possible that any pain you feel in your shoulder has been caused by some kind of spinal misalignment, or an injury which has occurred in your neck. For instance, an accidental fall might well cause a misalignment in your spine, and that could place a great deal of stress on the ligaments, nerves, and other body parts connected to the shoulder.

    What causes shoulder pain?

There are quite a few things which can cause shoulder pain, in addition to an accidental fall which results in injury. You could be troubled by a shoulder strain, a dislocation, sprains, strains, tendinitis, frozen shoulder, bursitis, or a rotator cuff injury. Before you consider any kind of surgery to correct the problem, you should see your local chiropractor to have the problem expertly diagnosed.

Until chiropractic care begins, you can still take some kind of medication to relieve the pain, but just be aware that it won’t really address the underlying issue. That’s where chiropractic care differs from traditional treatment, because it always seeks to discover the true cause of your pain or discomfort, rather than simply managing the symptoms for a short period of time.
