    It’s not easy to ignore back pain, and oftentimes it’s incredibly difficult to self-diagnose the symptoms. When you experience back pain, it’s always a good idea to visit your chiropractor at Larson Chiropractic; your chiropractor can likely use chiropractic medicine to help alleviate your pain, and also show you exercises and stretches that might help to strengthen weak areas and alleviate the tension of sore muscles. If you are unsure of the cause of your pain—the pain isn’t associated with an injury or a specific activity—it’s possible that your mattress is the culprit.

    Oftentimes back pain associated with a mattress is immediately noticeable when you wake up; it could also wake you up in the middle of the night, sore and stiff. Especially if the pain is sharp and acute, and you need to stretch the area extensively to alleviate the pain. When you have mattress problems, it’s oftentimes a sign that the mattress isn’t properly supporting you.

    When a mattress is too soft, your body can sink into the mattress and fall into improper alignment. When a mattress is too firm it can hold the body in a position too rigid, like sleeping on the hard floor, and this too can force the body into a poor alignment. Mattress age is also important. The quality and support provided by a mattress will degrade over time, and it’s a good practice to remember to replace the mattress every six to seven years depending on its condition.
